Parent information
All important information at a glance
Hello parents! Nice to have you here!
We are very happy that your child is interested in badminton or is already playing badminton with us at BV Frankfurt. Here we have put together the most important information about badminton in general and our club in particular. Let’s get started:
Why should our child play badminton?
Badminton is a great sport – for both boys and girls. Badminton can be played at any age and is also suitable for children who are not the most athletic. Our sport is safe, not too strenuous for children and is great fun for most. Every child can have a sense of achievement and play badminton throughout their lives.
Many general motor skills are practiced in badminton:
- Eye-hand coordination
- Throwing & catching
- Core strength & balance
- Speed & agility
- Jumping & landing
- Decision-making skills & tactics
Boys and girls as well as men and women train together right up to the elite level and also take part in competitions together. This is – in our opinion – a very special feature and a great advantage of our sport.
Why is badminton at the club good for our child?
Of course, children primarily learn badminton with us and constantly improve their sporting skills. But they learn much more than that at the sports club!
The children learn
- to assert themselves in a group/team.
- to stick to the rules.
- to accept successes and failures.
- to be self-confident.
- to be fair.
- to deal with children of different ages and abilities.
They also make lots of new friends with similar interests – who they then enjoy meeting up with outside the sports hall.
How can we support our child?
First things first: show an interest in badminton – your child’s sport! But you can do even more than that:
- Provide the necessary equipment – indoor sports shoes, sports clothing, badminton rackets, sports bag.
- Bring your child to training if necessary and also attend your child’s competitions or team games.
- Show your child that you are proud of their achievements.
- Encourage your child to take part in training regularly and to dare to take part in competitions.
- Take part in club events with your child when we offer them.
- Attend badminton events together with your child as a spectator, e.g. the matches of our first team or international competitions or badminton Bundesliga matches if they take place nearby.
- Be a role model and show your child how important it is to do sports regularly.
- Feel free to contribute your ideas and talents to the BVF in other ways – this could be anything from baking cakes to photography or bookkeeping. Just talk to us about it: We are interested in any form of support. Be it 5 minutes a week or 10 hours a month.
What does the first training session for our child look like & how often should he or she train?
The first training session for children and young people is very similar to the first training session for adults. We have compiled all the information HERE.
We are very happy when parents accompany their children to their first training sessions so that they can get to know us and we can get to know them. This applies not only to younger children, but also to parents of teenagers who are new to the club.
We recommend that everyone trains at least twice a week in order to make noticeable progress. Less is possible, but does not make sense. More is also possible – as long as we have the appropriate training times available.
Does our child have to take part in competitions?
No one has to take part in competitions with us if they don’t want to. However, we encourage everyone – after a few months of training – to try competitions. This is NOT about winning. None of our coaches expect that from beginners.
The main purpose of the first competitions is to gain experience. To realize what you still need to practice. But also to build up self-confidence when you have beaten your first opponent and see that diligent training is bringing progress.
Experience has shown that children who regularly take part in competitions remain loyal to their sport for much longer than children who only attend training sessions.
What kind of competitions are there in badminton?
There are 2 types of competitions in badminton: tournaments & team games.
- In tournaments, everyone plays “for themselves” – either in singles, doubles or mixed doubles – to win the tournament. Junior players play in different age groups from U9 to U19 and at different levels of play from E-ranking (= beginners) to A-ranking (= the best players in Germany).
- In the team round, 4 to 6 children form a team (depending on the age group). A team always consists of a mixture of girls and boys. Over the course of a season, this team competes in a league against teams from other clubs. Depending on the age group, between 6 and 8 matches (singles/doubles/mixed doubles) are played. The team that has won the most matches at the end of the day is the winner. Over the course of the season, each team plays every other team in the league once at home and once away. Points are awarded for each game won, from which a table is then drawn up (similar to the German Soccer League).
It is possible to enter tournament play at any time during the year. Entry into team play is only possible at the start of the season or before the start of the second half of the season.
Our child is talented at sport. How can it be given additional support?
Do you actually do all this full-time?
Here we can answer quite clearly: Unfortunately not! All of our coaches, board members and other committed people take on the tasks at BV Frankfurt purely on a voluntary basis alongside their main job. We therefore ask for your understanding if individuals have to set other priorities than the club from time to time. We always try to do the best we can for all children.
If you are interested in supporting us as a volunteer, please contact us. You can find more information HERE.
We have further questions about training, competitions or child welfare.
If you haven’t found the answer to your question(s) here on the website, please get in touch with us using the contact form. You will find all the important contacts there.
Of course, the coaches in the hall will also be happy to help you. Just talk to them. However, please note that they only have a few minutes, especially before training, so that the group doesn’t have to wait too long for training to start. Therefore, please make an appointment with them in advance for larger topics. You can easily reach all trainers at any time via our Klubraum app.
